Ghost in the Shell (1995) | Reel Rebels Series

Join us in 2026 for our year-long film series REEL REBELS. We’ll be screening films known for their renegade characters, including stories about underdogs fighting the odds, lonely voices crying to be heard, and moviemakers struggling to share their vision. REEL REBELS showcases works from across the globe that prove that movies will always be a home for nonconformists, dissenters, and rebels. 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲: Based on the internationally renowned cyberpunk manga, GHOST IN THE SHELL is a staple of the anime genre. In the year 2029, a police officer and her partner are on the hunt for a cyber criminal who hacks into the minds of cyborgs and humans alike. Delving into intricate themes of human identity vs. technology; challenging conventional gender norms; and critiquing corrupt governments. This anime pushed boundaries with its stunning visual style with deep philosophical questions, influencing major studio films like The Matrix. In Japanese w/ subtitles.
